Contacting Chinese Vendors: Is Fax or Email Better?Our Poll May Surprise You… Picture this: It's Christmas season, and your seasonal decorations are selling like crazy. Business is booming. You've already sold an entire shipment of 500 Santa Claus statues, and you're almost out again. Running out of goods would be like leaving money on the table. You need more Santas-NOW! Your supplier is a Chinese lady half a world away. How do you tell her that you need those Santas as soon as she can send them? Should you use email? Would a fax work better? On November 8-10, 2007, MyeFaxChina conducted a poll among vendors in Yiwu, China, "The Sea of Small Commodities." The goal of the survey was to find the best method for getting in touch with Chinese suppliers. Is fax the best way? What about email? Is there another choice? The interviewer spoke in Chinese with 20 randomly selected vendors in Yiwu. They sold everything from tires to candlesticks, from doll furniture to Santa Claus statues. Here are the results.1. When asked if they check their email every day: 50% said Yes 2. How many of their business cards listed no email address? 15% had no email address. 3. What means of communication do the vendors prefer for taking orders? 60% said Fax ![]() Is there a problem here? You probably feel much more comfortable using email.
