Five Reasons For You To Visit Yiwu

When you think of "doing business in China", do you think of Yiwu? Probably not.

If you're like most people, the words "China business" make you think of Shanghai, Beijing, or maybe Guangzhou.

So why should you care about this small, unglamorous city? If you are sourcing small, inexpensive commodities, you should definitely schedule a few days to visit Yiwu. Here's why:

1. To pick the right agent. A handshake and friendly chat are still the best methods for screening out lazy or dishonest agents. Your trade agent will be your representative in all dealings with vendors, shippers and the government. Shop around a bit-the effort will pay off.

2. To pick the right product. While most vendors have a website or at least a color brochure of their product line, it's often best to see and assess the goods yourself before ordering.

3. To get your goods customized. Many factories are happy to personalize your goods. For example, they will inscribe a company name or logo onto a set of dishes, or paint small picture frames with the colors you request. You can make these requests more easily in person.

4. To check for quality. Many of the Yiwu vendors will readily acknowledge that not all of their goods are top quality. You understand your target market. You should check the goods in person, to see what level of quality is acceptable for your customers.

5. To get a taste of Yiwu's culture. This is not a joke. While not nearly as glitzy as Shanghai, Yiwu does have its charms. Especially during exhibitions, the city is lively and colorful. There is a large and growing non-Chinese population. There are also the usual assortment of karaoke clubs, bars, and restaurants. Most prices are reasonable, and certainly cheaper than major cities.

Yiwu is only about two hours from Shanghai by the D-train. There are direct flights from other Chinese cities such as Beijing and Guangzhou every day. Read on for more information about getting good deals and enjoying your stay in Yiwu, brought to you by MyeFaxChina.com.
